Brookcliff Cottages
Two new holiday lets are being offered by Linda Moss, the Art-felt artist, and her husband Scott. Brookcliff Cottage is an independently accessed wing of Brookcliff House, built in the late 18th century and attached to a mid-17th century “secret chapel”. The cottage has a double bedroom with a large en suite shower room and toilet with a kitchen/sitting room. The latter has picturesque views over our fish pond and waterfall and the hamlet of The Wash and towards the hills beyond. The cottage will be available for rental by the week or for long weekends in time for Easter (23rd March) 2008. Brookfold Cottage was built as a barn probably in the middle of the 17th century. It is currently being restored with two galleried double bedrooms on the first floor and two further double bedrooms on the ground floor. The former shippon is being converted into a gracious lounge with extensive glazing facing southeast over a one hectare field with Soay sheep, hens and large kitchen garden. There will also be a fully equipped kitchen and a wet room and WC at the northwest entrance to the cottage. The architect's drawing of the southeast elevation is below. The holiday cottage occupies the building from the central chimney towards the right of the elevation. We expect Brookfold Cottage to be available for holiday lets during the summer of 2008.

The Wash is a small hamlet of 16 cottages and farmhouses. There is excellent shopping, opera, theatre and restaurants in Buxton, nine miles from The Wash. Good restaurants are also closer at hand in Chinley and Chapel en le Frith (both less than a five minute drive or twenty minute walk). There is excellent walking from the door – one of our favourites being a day walk to Kinder Scout.
